Two Injured as Grumman American AA-1 Crashes Near Kearneysville, WV

Two people were injured Wednesday when a privately registered Grumman American AA-1 Yankee, registration N6132L, crashed in a field near Kearneysville, West Virginia. The aircraft departed Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport (Shepherd Field) at approximately 1:45 p.m. local time and was reportedly conducting aerial work near Berryville before losing power and going down near 494 Harry Shirley Road around 2:19 p.m.

Emergency responders identified both occupants as Priority 2. One was airlifted to a hospital; the other was transported by ground ambulance. According to WV MetroNews, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office confirmed the aircraft came to rest in a farmer's field, with no impact on local road traffic.

Aircraft Damage and Investigation

The aircraft came to rest inverted, with the engine and right wing separated from the airframe and the tail bent approximately 90 degrees. The Aviation Safety Network has listed the aircraft as a total loss. The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation under docket No. 106734. Weather at the time was reported as clear with 10 miles of visibility and light winds, consistent with visual meteorological conditions.
