Two people escaped injury May 20 when a small experimental aircraft crashed just short of Hutchinson Regional Airport in Kansas, according to local reports.

Preliminary federal records identify the aircraft as a Timmer William Air Cam, registration N32F. No injuries to the occupants or people on the ground were reported.

Investigation Underway

Local authorities notified the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board per standard procedure. While the NTSB assigned an event ID to the incident, a formal narrative report has not yet been released. The identities of the pilot and passenger have not been disclosed.

Air Cam aircraft are lightweight, experimental aircraft often used for recreational flight and aerial photography. General aviation safety data indicates that a significant portion of experimental aircraft incidents occur during takeoff and landing phases of flight.
