A Delta Air Lines Airbus A350-900 experienced an engine issue shortly after departing Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (EHAM) on June 2, 2026. The flight declared an emergency and performed a safe return to the airport, where it was met by emergency services as a standard precaution.

While Delta has not yet released a detailed technical report on the specific cause of the return, the incident mirrors previous widebody diversions. In a similar event, flight DL161 previously returned to Schiphol due to a pneumatic system issue. Additionally, a separate Delta A350 flight (DL159) was diverted to Fairbanks, Alaska, following mechanical difficulties with an engine, illustrating the carrier's conservative approach to engine-related cockpit indications.

Passengers on the June 2 flight were accommodated on later services. The Airbus A350-900 is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, which are designed for safe continued operation on a single engine. The aircraft will undergo a full maintenance inspection before returning to active service.
