NetJets Citation Latitude Crashes on Texas Highway, Kills One
A NetJets-operated Cessna 680A Citation Latitude crashed onto a Texas highway Monday night during an emergency diversion to Laredo International Airport, killing one passenger and injuring five others. The aircraft, registration N523QS, was en route from San José del Cabo, Mexico, to Austin when the crew declared a mechanical emergency and reported low fuel to Laredo Tower at approximately 9:55 p.m. local time.
The jet came down on Loop 20 near Fesco Boulevard, roughly four kilometers short of the runway threshold, striking at least one ground vehicle before being destroyed in a post-crash fire. The sole fatality has been identified as Joshua Baer, co-founder and CEO of Austin-based tech accelerator Capital Factory. Laredo International Airport Director Gilberto Sanchez confirmed that cockpit communication was lost shortly before impact. Aviation analysts noted weather conditions were VFR with good visibility at the time, leaving the precise cause of the mechanical failure undetermined.
The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation with FAA support. NetJets confirmed the accident involved one of its aircraft and said crisis response and family support teams have been activated. Aviation tracking records indicate this is the first fatal accident in the fractional operator's history — a distinction that underscores the gravity of Monday night's events.
