NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on Fatal Challenger 650 Crash in Bangor
The National Transportation Safety Board has released preliminary findings on a fatal Bombardier Challenger 650 accident at Bangor International Airport on Jan. 25, 2026, that killed all six people aboard.
The report indicates the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff during severe winter weather conditions. Investigators found no evidence of pre-impact engine failure or flight control malfunctions, instead pointing to a combination of factors including de-icing fluid holdover time limits and improper thrust settings.
Preliminary data shows the crew departed at 85% thrust on a snow-contaminated runway, despite protocols requiring higher power settings. The NTSB's initial analysis suggests the aircraft stalled during an aggressive rotation while ice contamination remained on the airframe, having exceeded the holdover time for Type IV de-icing fluid applied earlier that evening. The investigation remains ongoing.
