Training Flight Ends in Fatal House Crash

A Piper PA-28 Cherokee training aircraft crashed into a residential house in Akron, Ohio, Thursday afternoon, killing both occupants aboard. The accident occurred near Canterbury Circle, approximately one mile west of Akron Fulton Airport.

The aircraft, registered as N7188W, departed Akron Fulton at 2:03 p.m. with a certified flight instructor and the aircraft's pilot-owner aboard. Witnesses reported seeing the plane spiral from about 1,000 feet before impact. The National Transportation Safety Board said the aircraft overflew the runway during a second approach before entering an unexplained upset condition.

Family Escapes as Fire Engulfs Home

Homeowner Colton Laudato and two children escaped the burning house uninjured. Laudato was working from home when the crash occurred and evacuated the children and family dog from the residence as a post-crash fire consumed the structure. The NTSB is leading the investigation, with a preliminary report expected within 30 days.
