Piper J3C-65 Crashes Onto Fulshear, Texas, Home Near Private Airstrip

A small plane crashed onto the roof of a home in Fulshear, Texas, Monday morning, leaving the pilot hospitalized and causing significant structural damage to the residence. The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. local time near the Covey Trails Airstrip in Fort Bend County, west of Houston, according to reports from The New York Times and USA Today.

Investigation and Pilot Condition

The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Piper J3C-65 and confirmed an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway. Initial reports from USA Today indicated the pilot sustained minor injuries and was transported to Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital; however, a hospital spokesperson cited by The New York Times later said the pilot was in serious condition as of Tuesday.

Emergency Response

First responders from the Fulshear Simonton Fire Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived to find the yellow aircraft perched at an angle, one wing on the ground and the other against the roof. Authorities had not confirmed whether any occupants were inside the home at the time of impact. The aircraft was reportedly attempting to land at a nearby private airstrip when it struck the residence.
