Analysis

On April 23, 1994, at 1200 central daylight time, a Cessna 182P, N1483M, sustained substantial damage when it departed runway 28 during landing roll at the Kahoka Municipal Airport, Kahoka, Missouri. The private pilot and the sole passenger aboard the airplane were not injured. The personal flight originated at the Waverly Municipal Airport, Waverly, Iowa. No flight plan was filed, and visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time.

The pilot reported the wind was from the south, and that he had to use a 10 degree wind correction while on final. He stated the landing roll was straight for about 800 feet. After the airplane got out from behind several large grain elevators, the crosswind hit the airplane. The airplane skidded off the north side of the runway. The landing gear sank in the soft dirt of a farmer's field, and the airplane went up on its nose. The local police department reported the wind was from the south at 25-30 knots all day.
