Analysis

On May 28, 1994, at 0743 mountain daylight time, a Piper PA-25, N4842Y, sustained minor damage when it nosed over during a forced landing near Newdale, Idaho after a loss of power. The commercial pilot, who was engaged in aerial application activities, was listed as receiving serious injuries. The flight had originated at Newdale, Idaho, and was being conducted under 14CFR137 in visual meteorological conditions. There was no fire and there was no ELT installed in the aircraft.

The pilot was required to remain hospitalized for greater than 48 hours. He stated that the aircraft lost power during a run, about 20 miles northeast of Rexburg, Idaho.

The pilot stated that an oil line from the oil cooler ruptured, causing a loss of oil, folowed by a loss of power.
