Analysis

On August 6, 1998, at 0750 eastern daylight time, a Waco WMF, N723SR, nosed over , according to the pilot, following a landing on runway 2L at the Dekalb-Peachtree Airport in Chamblee, Georgia. The personal flight operated under the provisions of Title 14 CFR Part 91 with no flight plan filed. A review of weather data from the nearest weather facility disclosed that visual weather conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The airplane sustained substantial damage. The private rated pilot and the pilot/passenger were not injured. The flight departed Atlanta, Georgia, at 0700.

The pilot reported that they had completed a series of touch and go landings, and they were exiting the runway when the airplane nosed over. During an interview with the Federal Aviation Administration Aviation Safety Inspector, the pilot reported that he may have been moving too fast, and he may have applied heavy braking is he attempted to taxi off of the runway.

The pilot stated that all aircraft systems operated normally, and he had not experienced a mechanical problem with the airplane.
