Analysis

On May 4, 1993, at 0900 central daylight time, a Rockwell S-2R, N424OX, was substantially damaged while maneuvering near Lookeba, Oklahoma. The commercial pilot, also the owner/operator, sustained minor injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed.

During an interview with the pilot, conducted by a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector, he stated that he had completed a spray run and was maneuvering for the next pass when the cockpit filled with smoke and the engine lost power. He further reported that after he lost engine power his right wing struck a telephone pole and he descended uncontrollably to ground impact. The operator was unable to determine why the engine lost power. As a result of a bankruptcy proceeding the was removed from the warehouse and could not be located for additional inspection.
