Analysis

On Friday, October 22, 1993, at 1505 eastern daylight time, a Beech BE-58, N13AK, registered to Tailwinds, Inc., and piloted by George A. Yetka, sustained substantial damage during a landing at the Millville Municipal Airport, Millville, New Jersey. The pilot and the one passenger were not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed. The flight was being conducted under 14 CFR 91.

The pilot landed on runway 28. He stated that as he slowed the airplane during the landing roll, he decided to raise the wing flaps. He said that he inadvertently activated the landing gear switch handle, rather than the flap switch handle. The landing gear collapsed, and the right wing struck a runway light and runway marker.

In his report, the pilot stated:

Prior to turning off the runway I reached for the flap switch. The next thing I knew I was sliding to the right...The plane came to rest on its belly...
