Analysis
On June 28, 2003, approximately 1830 central daylight time, a Schweizer G-164B single-engine agricultural airplane, N7501H, was substantially damaged when it impacted the terrain and nosed over after exiting the side of the runway during the landing roll at the Oldham County Airport, near Vega, Texas. The commercial pilot, who was the sole occupant of the airplane, was not injured. The airplane was registered to and operated by Caprock Spraying, Inc., of Vega, Texas. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and a flight plan was not filed for the 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 137 aerial application flight. The local flight departed the Oldham County Airport approximately 1700.
According to the Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident Report (NTSB Form 6120.1/2), the pilot stated that during the landing roll on the 4,200-foot asphalt runway, the airplane's left brake failed. Subsequently, the airplane exited the right side of the runway, struck a ditch, nosed over, and came to rest in the inverted position.
The FAA Inspector, who responded to the accident site, reported the left wing sustained structural and the engine firewall was buckled. During the accident sequence, the left main landing gear and brake line separated. The reason for the left brake failure was not determined.
