Analysis

On July 18, 2003, about 1000 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 182P, N9913E, registered and operated by an individual, impacted with the ground short of the runway at the Vandenberg Airport, Tampa, Florida. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed. No flight plan was filed for Title 14 CFR Part 91 personal flight. The airplane was substantially damaged. The private-rated pilot reported no injuries. The flight had departed from Wauchula, Florida, at 0945.

According to the pilot he was on approach to runway 18, and landed on the grass short of the runway. The airplane then struck the lip of the runway, damaging the nose gear and firewall. The pilot did not report the accident, and repaired the damage to the airplane before he reported the accident to the NTSB on December 5, 2003.
