Analysis

The airplane sustained substantial damage when it exited the runway, impacted soft ground in a ditch, and nosed over during a landing on runway 16. The pilot reported that the winds were 120 degrees at 16 knots gusts to 21 knots. The pilot stated, "Made a gentle landing upwind wheel first, settled down right wheel. Suddenly I was caught by a nasty side gust. Upwind wing lifted, plane lifted to the right side of runway on the grass, tried to left rudder, left aileron, but wind pushed me further - went down the ditch ... . Plane caught the very soft ditch and wheel went down in mud - flipped over-nose and landed on its back." The pilot reported no mechanical malfunctions with the airplane in reference to the flight.
