Summary

On October 07, 2007, a Cessna 182P (N6415F) was involved in an incident near Troutdale, OR. All 2 people aboard were uninjured. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The National Transportation Safety Board determined the probable cause of this incident to be: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the tailwind condition and failure to maintain an adequate airspeed.

The pilot stated in the Pilot-Operator Aircraft Accident Report that the airport ATIS reported that the winds were at 190 degrees and 10 knots. The tower was using runway 07 and cleared the pilot to land on runway 07. During the level off for landing, just before the flare, the airplane seemed to lose lift and contacted the runway hard. The pilot executed a go-around. The tower cleared the pilot to land on runway 25, which he did uneventfully. During the post flight examination the pilot noticed that the propeller tips had been damaged. Further examination revealed damage to the firewall.

The pilot stated that the airplane and engine had no mechanical failures or malfunctions during the flight.

This incident is documented in NTSB report LAX08CA017. AviatorDB cross-references NTSB investigation data with FAA registry records to provide comprehensive safety information for aircraft N6415F.
