N74SR – Godwin, David P Sorrell SNJ-7 – 2007-11-27 NTSB Accident Report

On November 27, 2007, a Godwin, David P Sorrell SNJ-7 (N74SR) was involved in an incident near Belen, NM. All 1 person aboard were uninjured. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The National Transportation Safety Board determined the probable cause of this incident to be: The pilot's loss of directional control during landing resulting in a ground loop.

According to the pilot's statement, he was landing on runway 21 and the winds were light and variable. Shortly after touchdown on the runway, he lost directional control and the airplane ground looped. The airplane departed the left side of the runway and came to rest upright. Examination of the airplane revealed that one main landing gear was separated and one was folded under the fuselage. Several right wing ribs were broken. No anomalies with the aircraft systems were reported. The private pilot, who was the sole occupant and registered owner, was not injured.
