Analysis

On October 24, 2008, about 1041 Atlantic daylight time, a Cessna 402C, Paraguay registration ZP-TVA, owned and operated by AsisMed, impacted terrain near Asuncion, Paraguay. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed. The aircraft was substantially damaged. The pilot and 4 passengers were killed. The flight originated from the Asuncion Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Asuncion, Paraguay, about 1039.

Information obtained from the Government of Paraguay indicated that prior to takeoff the pilot of the airplane communicated with the airport controller advising that the flight was going to be a maintenance test flight. About 2 minutes after takeoff, and 4 miles northwest of the departure end of the runway, the airplane crashed into a field of eucalyptus. A witness stated that the airplane impacted the ground nose first and then burst into flames.
