On January 9, 2011, at 1930 universal coordinated time, an Air Tractor AT-802, Spanish registration EC-IOE, registered to FAASA Group Aerodromo Sebastian Almagro Ctra, operated by FAASA Chile Servicios Aeros LTDA, collided with trees near Santa Juana, Chile, while maneuvering at a low altitude during a fire fighting mission. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed. The certificated commercial pilot was killed and the aerial observer received serious injuries. The airplane was destroyed. The flight originated from a landing strip in the vicinity of Santa Juana, Chile, at 1900.
