On June 23, 2011, about 1000 UTC, a Cirrus SR20, Luxembourg registration LX-MPR, operated by a private individual, collided with mountainous terrain near Cairo Montenotte, Italy. Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed in the area at the time and flight plan information is unknown for the foreign flight from Cannes-Mandelieu Airport (LFMD), Cannes, France, to Verona Boscomantico Airport (LIPN), Verona, Italy. The airplane sustained substantial damage due to impact and a postcrash fire, and the pilot and two passengers were fatally injured. The flight originated about 1 hour earlier from LFMD.
The airplane impacted the slope of mountainous terrain about 833 meters above mean sea level.
