Summary

On June 16, 2012, a Cessna 182H (N2424X) was involved in an incident near Meadow Creek, MT. All 2 people aboard were uninjured. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The National Transportation Safety Board determined the probable cause of this incident to be: The pilot's misjudged approach and improper landing flare, which resulted in a hard landing.

The pilot was landing at a mountain airstrip. He verified the wind and initiated a landing to the south. After flying a traffic pattern and establishing the airplane on final, he applied the first notch of flaps. As the airplane approached the airstrip he realized that it was too high. He added the next notch of flaps and continued the descent. As the airplane overshot the north end of the airstrip he considered conducting a go around, but due to the obstacles surrounding the airstrip, he elected to continue the landing. Upon landing, the airplane bounced and damaged the nosewheel and firewall. The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

This incident is documented in NTSB report WPR12CA266. AviatorDB cross-references NTSB investigation data with FAA registry records to provide comprehensive safety information for aircraft N2424X.
