Analysis

On 20 June 2012, an Airbus A320 (Registration ZK-OJQ) operated by Air New Zealand suffered a bird-strike on its right-hand engine on approach to Wellington Aerodrome (New Zealand). The aircraft landed safely, after which Air New Zealand Maintenance carried out inspection of the right-hand engine in accordance with the Airbus aircraft maintenance manual. The aeroplane was subsequently released to service and flew from Wellington to Auckland (about a one-hour flight). On approach to Auckland the right-hand engine surged. The flight crew reduced the engine to idle and again landed the aircraft without further incident.
