Summary

On July 22, 2013, a Cessna 172S (N121CW) was involved in an incident near New Smyrna Beach, FL. All 1 person aboard were uninjured. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The National Transportation Safety Board determined the probable cause of this incident to be: The student pilot's improper landing flare and subsequent inadequate recovery from a bounced landing.

As the student pilot attempted to regain control of the airplane, the propeller contacted the runway.
