On September 8, 2014, about 2120 coordinated universal time, a Cessna 182P, Colombian registration HK-1921, was substantially damaged while ditching into the Vaupes River near Mitu, Columbia. The pilot sustained minor injuries, one passenger was seriously injured, and the other passenger was fatally injured. The flight, which had departed from Fabio Alberto León Bentley Airport (SKMU) and was destined for Tapurucuara Airport (MUR), was conducted under Colombian flight regulations.
According to preliminary information from the Government of Colombia, about a minute after departing, the airplane's engine lost power. The pilot attempted to return to the airport, but was unable and subsequently performed a landing to the Vapues river.
