On March 17, 2015, at 1532 eastern daylight time, a Piper PA-32RT-300T, Canadian registration C-GDWA, impacted terrain while attempting to return to the Sudbury Airport (CYSB) Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The pilot and two passengers were fatally injured. The flight departed from CYSB, with an intended destination of the Smith Reynolds Airport (KINT), Winston Salem, North Carolina.
The pilot reported having an undisclosed problem after departure, as the flight was about 40 miles south of CYSB, and that he was returning to the airport. Radar contact and radio communications were lost about two minutes later. The wreckage was subsequently located the following day in a remote wooded area.
