Analysis

On April 21, 2015, a Shaheen Air International (SAI) Boeing 737-400, powered by CFMI CFM56-3C1 turbofan engines, experienced a No. 1 (left engine) failure while climbing through 3,200 feet. The flight crew heard a loud band and high exhaust gas temperature was observed for the No. 1 engine. The engine was shutdown and the airplane was turned back for a successful single engine landing at the Islamabad International Airport (OPRN).
