On July 8, 2015, at 1641 local time, an amateur built Pitts 12, VH-JDZ, collided with terrain near Maitland, Australia and was destroyed by postimpact fire. The pilot, the sole occupant, was fatally injured. The airplane was being operated under the pertinent civil regulations of the Government of Australia.
