Analysis

On July 19, 2015, about 1515 universal coordinated time, a Cessna 206G, HC-CLR, was destroyed by collision with terrain during a forced landing following a loss of engine power during descent to Edmund Carvajal Airport (XMS), Macas, Santiago, Ecuador. The Ecuadoran certificated pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was descending on the return leg of a sport-parachuting flight after 5 parachutists had exited.

According to investigators, seven minutes after deploying the parachutists at 12,000 feet, the pilot declared an emergency due to a loss of engine power. The airplane was at 9,500 feet, and the pilot announced he would attempt to reach Sucua Airport (SUQ) in Sucua, Ecuador for the forced landing. There were no further communications from the pilot.

The airplane collided with terrain prior to reaching SUQ.
