Analysis

On July 16, 2017, at 1300 coordinated universal time, a Cessna 172M, Russian registration RA-2842G, ditched into Lake Baikal, near Khuzhir, Irkutskaya Oblast, Russia, after a total loss of engine power. The airplane incurred substantial damage during the ditching. The pilot was uninjured. Three passengers were seriously injured. The local flight departed Kharantsy, Irkutskaya Oblast, Russia, and was conducted under Russian flight regulations.The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Interstate Aviation Committee of Russia.
