Analysis

On June 17, 2018, about 0730 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 172 airplane, N734RS, sustained substantial damage following a loss of directional control and a runway excursion while landing at Fullerton Municipal Airport (KFUL), Fullerton, California. The airplane was registered to RI Flying Club Inc. and operated by the pilot, without their knowledge or consent, as a visual flight rules flight under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 when the accident occurred. The non-solo endorsed student pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan had been filed.

The investigation of this event is being conducted under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
