The Beech T-34A Mentor was an efficient primary trainer that revolutionized military pilot instruction during the early Cold War era. First flown in 1948 as the Model 45 prototype, it was a low-wing single-engine monoplane that seated two occupants in tandem configuration. The aircraft measured 25 feet 11 inches in length with a 32-foot 10-inch wingspan and achieved a maximum speed of 191 miles per hour. Manufactured by Beechcraft Corporation of Wichita, Kansas, the T-34A proved so effective that it reduced primary training time by more than 50 percent compared to its predecessor, the North American T-6 Texan.
