The Aérospatiale Alouette III was a revolutionary light utility helicopter that became one of the world's most successful rotorcraft designs, serving military and civilian operators across more than 80 countries. First flown on 28 February 1959, it was a single-engine helicopter powered by either a Turbomeca Artouste or Astazou turboshaft engine, capable of carrying a pilot, observer, and four passengers. With a main rotor diameter of 11.02 meters and maximum weight of 2,200 kilograms, the Alouette III demonstrated exceptional versatility in roles ranging from search-and-rescue to military transport. The aircraft was manufactured by Sud Aviation, later Aérospatiale.
