The MBB-Kawasaki BK-117 was a pioneering international collaboration that created one of the world's most successful twin-engine utility helicopters. First flown in 1979, it was a conventional single-rotor helicopter powered by two Textron Lycoming turboshaft engines, capable of carrying up to 10 passengers or equivalent cargo loads. With over 64 feet in overall length and a maximum takeoff weight of 7,385 pounds, the BK-117 achieved remarkable commercial success with 1,304 units delivered through 2016. The helicopter was jointly developed and manufactured by Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm of Germany and Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan.
