The Aérospatiale Alouette 2 was the world's first production helicopter powered by a turboshaft engine, revolutionizing rotorcraft design and establishing turbine power as the standard for modern helicopters. First flown on March 12, 1955, it was a single-engine, five-seat light helicopter capable of carrying 1,600 pounds maximum takeoff weight. With a rotor diameter of 33 feet and fuselage length of 31 feet, the Alouette 2 achieved a service ceiling of 7,545 feet and range of 350 miles. Manufactured by Sud-Est, Sud Aviation, and later Aérospatiale in France.
