The DHC-7 Dash 7, a pioneering quiet-technology regional airliner, represented de Havilland Canada's ambitious entry into the four-engine turboprop market. First flown on March 27, 1975, it was a high-wing four-engine aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-50 turboprops, seating 50-54 passengers with exceptional short takeoff and landing capabilities. With its 93-foot wingspan and remarkably quiet operation, the Dash 7 achieved what no other aircraft of its size could: meeting stringent 1970s noise regulations while operating from short, challenging airfields. De Havilland Aircraft Company of Canada manufactured 114 examples between 1978 and 1988.
