The DHC-8-400 Dash 8, the largest and most successful member of De Havilland Canada's turboprop airliner family, transformed regional aviation with its 90-passenger capacity and exceptional efficiency. First flown on January 31, 1998, it featured a high-wing twin-turboprop configuration powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150A engines producing 4,850 shaft horsepower each. Stretching over 107 feet in length with a cruising speed of 360 knots, the aircraft established itself as the highest-capacity turboprop airliner in the world. More than 620 examples have been manufactured by De Havilland Canada, later Bombardier Aerospace, and currently De Havilland Aircraft of Canada.
