The AAMSA A-9 Quail was a purpose-built agricultural aircraft that established the classic low-wing configuration standard for crop-dusting planes. First flown in 1962, it was a single-seat, strut-braced low-wing monoplane powered by a 300-horsepower Lycoming engine. With a maximum takeoff weight of 3,800 pounds and a 210-gallon chemical hopper, it could handle substantial agricultural operations. The aircraft was manufactured by Aeronáutica Agrícola Mexicana SA from 1971 to 1984, representing the final production phase of a design that passed through multiple companies.
