The Lancair IV revolutionized experimental aviation as the first kit-built aircraft to offer pressurized cabin capability, enabling single-engine piston performance previously reserved for certified aircraft. First flown in 1991, it was a low-wing composite monoplane powered by a twin-turbocharged Continental TSIO-550 engine that seated four occupants. With a 30-foot wingspan and cruise speeds exceeding 300 knots at 24,000 feet, the aircraft was manufactured by Lancair International in Redmond, Oregon.
