
The ATR-42-300 was the first successful regional turboprop airliner designed specifically for short-haul operations on challenging airports and unpaved runways. First flown on August 16, 1984, it was a high-wing twin-turboprop configuration seating 42 passengers with a maximum range of 885 kilometers. The aircraft measured over 22 meters in length with a 24.5-meter wingspan and was manufactured by ATR, a Franco-Italian consortium established between Aérospatiale and Aeritalia.
