The ATR 72-211 represents an early production variant of the world's most successful modern regional turboprop airliner, designed to bridge the gap between smaller commuter aircraft and mainline jets. First flown in 1988, it is a high-wing twin-turboprop configuration seating up to 78 passengers, stretched 4.5 meters beyond its ATR 42 predecessor. The aircraft spans a larger wingspan than the ATR 42 and incorporates innovative carbon-fiber outer wing construction. Manufactured by ATR, the Franco-Italian joint venture between Aérospatiale and Aeritalia.
