The Eurocopter EC-665 Tiger represents Europe's first indigenous attack helicopter, developed through an unprecedented Franco-German collaboration to challenge American dominance in military rotorcraft. First flown on April 27, 1991, it is a twin-engine tandem-seat attack helicopter powered by two MTU Turbomeca Rolls-Royce MTR390 turboshaft engines producing 1,341 shaft horsepower each. The Tiger achieves a maximum speed of 315 kilometers per hour and incorporates an 80 percent composite airframe for enhanced survivability. Eurocopter, later Airbus Helicopters, manufactured approximately 181 aircraft across four variants for European and Australian forces.
