The CH-53D Sea Stallion was the U.S. Marine Corps' primary heavy-lift helicopter during the Vietnam War, capable of transporting 25,000 pounds of external cargo—unmatched for its era. First flown as the prototype YCH-53A on October 14, 1964, it was a twin-turboshaft helicopter that could carry troops, artillery, or vehicles in its spacious cabin. With a 72-foot rotor diameter and powered by two General Electric T64-GE-413 engines producing 3,925 shaft horsepower each, the aircraft was manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation.
