The McDonnell Douglas DC-8-70 series represented a revolutionary retrofit program that transformed aging jetliners into fuel-efficient, noise-compliant aircraft through advanced turbofan technology. First flown in August 1981, it was a narrow-body four-engine jetliner configuration that could carry up to 259 passengers or substantial freight loads. Measuring 187 feet in length with a 142-foot wingspan, exactly 110 aircraft were converted from existing DC-8 Super 60 series airframes by McDonnell Douglas and its partners between 1975 and 1988.
