The Convair C-131 Samaritan was the United States Air Force's first pressurized, twin-engine transport aircraft, revolutionizing military medical evacuation and personnel transport capabilities. First flown as the civilian CV-240 in March 1947, it was a low-wing twin-engine aircraft powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engines that could carry 44 passengers or 27 stretcher patients. With a wingspan of 105 feet and 4 inches and a maximum speed of 315 mph, the aircraft was manufactured by the Convair Division of General Dynamics Corporation from 1954 to 1956.
