The Fokker F-27 Friendship, Europe's most successful postwar turboprop airliner, revolutionized short-haul commercial aviation as the first pressurized turboprop to effectively replace the aging Douglas DC-3. First flown on November 24, 1955, it was a high-wing twin-engine aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce Dart turboprops that could accommodate 32 to 40 passengers. Measuring over 64 feet in length with advanced glued sandwich construction that reduced weight by 15 percent, the F-27 was manufactured by Fokker Aircraft Company of the Netherlands.
