The Antonov An-140, a regional turboprop airliner designed to replace the venerable An-24, represented Ukraine's ambitious attempt to capture the modern short-haul transport market. First flown on December 26, 1997, it was a high-wing twin-turboprop monoplane configured to carry 52 passengers or equivalent cargo. Measuring over 22 meters in length with a range of 2,100 kilometers, the aircraft was manufactured by Antonov State Transport Design Bureau with additional production licensed to Iran and Russia.
