The Mi-26, the world's largest production helicopter, revolutionized heavy-lift operations for both military and civilian users when it first flew on December 14, 1977. This twin-engine turboshaft helicopter features a single eight-bladed main rotor with a 105-foot diameter and can carry up to 44,092 pounds of cargo or transport 63 passengers. Standing 26 feet 9 inches tall with a maximum takeoff weight of 123,459 pounds, the Mi-26 demonstrated unprecedented lifting capability by hoisting 125,000 pounds to 6,500 feet in 1982. The helicopter was manufactured by Rostvertol at the Rostov-on-Don plant under design leadership of the Mil bureau.
