Royal Navy Fleet

The Hawker Sea Hawk was Britain's first purpose-built carrier-based jet fighter, serving as the Royal Navy's primary naval jet during the 1950s. First flown in 1949, it was a single-seat, straight-wing monoplane powered by a single Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet engine. With a wingspan of 39 feet and maximum speed of 560 mph, the Sea Hawk proved adaptable to both fighter and ground-attack roles. The aircraft was manufactured by Hawker Aircraft Limited and later Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft.
