The Mitsubishi MU-300 Diamond was Japan's first indigenously designed business jet, representing Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' ambitious entry into the competitive light jet market. First flown on August 29, 1978, it was a low-wing twin-turbofan aircraft with a distinctive T-tail configuration that could accommodate two crew members and eight passengers. Measuring over 48 feet in length with rear-mounted Pratt & Whitney JT15D engines, the Diamond achieved certification on November 6, 1981, though only 97 examples were built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries before production rights transferred to Beechcraft in 1985.
