The DHC-8-300 Dash 8 was a stretched variant of De Havilland Canada's successful regional airliner series, designed to bridge the capacity gap between smaller commuter aircraft and larger mainline jets. First flown in the late 1980s as part of the expanded Dash 8 family, it featured a high-wing twin-turboprop configuration with seating for approximately 50 passengers. Measuring over 84 feet in length with a 90-foot wingspan, the aircraft offered improved range and payload over its predecessors while maintaining the Dash 8's reputation for short-field performance and operational reliability in challenging conditions.
